Economics Society SXCJ
Economics Society also known as "EcoSoc" is a sub unit of Economics Society SXCJ. The members of ECOSOC are the current students of the Department of Economics and Psychology. This Society organizes extra -curricular and academic events of the department. It engages the students of the department in activities related to current economic issues such as debates, group discussions, guest lectures, and research work. This Society will provide a common platform to the current students of the Department of Economics and Psychology as well as the Alumni of the Department.

Synergy
Synergy is a national level, intercollegiate academic fest organized by the Department of Economics, which provides a platform for young minds to implement the theoretical knowledge of economics in a practical and innovative environment.
Session 2019-2020
The Department of Economics organized its annual economic fest “Synergy” on 4th and 5th of October 2019. The 8th edition of the fest saw a footfall of more than 650 students from all across the nation. The chief guest for the opening ceremony was Mr. Bhanwar Singh Bhati, Minister for State Higher Education, Government of Rajasthan. The Opening Ceremony of the fest began with the Conclave on the topic ‘#SAYNOTOSINGLEUSEPLASTIC: A Call for Youth. Synergy 2019 was organized with the aim to put a stop on the use of single-use plastic where the department pledged not to use single-use plastic during the duration of the event and further on as well. The panelists for the discussion were Mr. Kushagra Juneja (Managing Partner, Design2Occupancy Services LLP), Mr. Nitesh Saboo (Director, Shreya Petrochem), Mr. Shashank Vyas (Associate Fellow, TERI) and Mr. Dinesh Raj Bandela (Deputy Programme Manager, CSE).
Session 2020-2021
The Department of Economics and Psychology organized its annual fest 'Synergy' on January 16 and 17, 2021. This ninth edition of Synergy lived up to its benchmark with the theme appropriately being 'Virtualization of Ideas'. The event commenced with the illuminating words of the chief guest, Mr. Om Thanvi, Vice Chancellor, Haridev Joshi University of Journalism and Mass Communication, Rajasthan ILD Skills University (RISU) and Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer that enlightened the gathering about the Indian values and traditions The theme of conclave this year was 'Vocal for Local'. The panelists for the discussion were Mrs. Manisha Jani, Director and Co-founder, of Indigreenz, Innovation, Pvt. Ltd., Mrs. Saloni Sacheti, founder, Baansuli and Mr. Manan Issar, CEO and founder, of Piltover Technologies, Pvt. Ltd. who drew attention upon the importance of manufacturing and purchasing local objects in uplifting Indian Economy.

Symposium
The Department of Economics organizes a Multi-disciplinary Symposium annually to bring out and further refine the research potential of the students.
Session 2019-2020
In 2019, the annual symposium was organized on the theme, Sustainable Development Goals: A Critical Analysis, on 9 November 2019 in collaboration with the Rajasthan Economic Association. The Symposium was divided in 3 technical sessions covering all the Sustainable Development Goals. The themes for the sessions were the following:
a. Session 1: Poverty and hunger; quality education and gender equality; access, availability and affordability
b. Session 2: Global partnership, peace and justice
c. Session 3: Agriculture and climate change
The students presented their papers across these themes and interacted with the participants about trends and innovations in sustainable development. The Symposium concluded with a valedictory ceremony with closing remarks by the Principal followed by certificate and souvenir distribution.
Session 2020-2021
The theme for this year's Symposium was “Looking through Intermediate Lenses: Inclusive and Green Growth”. Dr. Aditi Sawant, Head, Department of Economics, St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, keynote speaker of the event, explained the need for the private sector and the government to work mutually to achieve the goals of inclusive growth and also elaborated on the opportunities available for developing an inclusive India by recognizing the key levers in the field of education, governance, energy and resources, healthcare, infrastructure and business model innovation
Departmental Library
Dr. Sapna Newar Library is one of the many initiatives taken by the Department of Economics and Psychology, in the memory of beloved teacher Lt. Dr. Sapna Newar. It has been established with the aim of providing a platform for knowledge sharing and increasing the reference material available to the current students as well as the alumni of the Department.
The Inauguration Ceremony was held on the 9th of January 2021. The departmental library was unveiled by the members of College Management. Although humble, this initiative is the first step in the direction of a larger collective goal pioneered by the department in order to uphold the values of Sapna ma’am and move closer towards fulfilling her aspirations bit by bit. The department hopes to grow the Library to a full-fledged entity so that it can benefit all the students of the institution.
Movie Screening and Group Discussion
The Department of Economics conducts group discussions and moving screenings for the students to enhance their knowledge of contemporary issues.
Session 2019-2020
The department conducted a movie screening followed by a group discussion on the topic “Paris Climate Agreement” for all undergraduate and postgraduate students on. A documentary by National Geographic entitled “Paris to Pittsburgh” by filmmaker Sidney Beaumont was shown to the students followed by a group discussion. The film focused on the most severe threats of climate change. The movie screening was followed by a group discussion which took place in 3 phases. During this, the students opined in either favor or against the Paris Climate Agreement and whether India will be able to achieve its targets according to the clauses of the agreement.
Dr. Sapna Newar Memorial Lecture
In the year 2019, the department lost its senior most and loving teachers, Dr. Sapna Newar in an unfortunate incident. As a tribute, the department has planned to organize a memorial lecture every year on 14 December (the birth anniversary of Dr. Sapna Newar).
Session 2019-2020
In 2019, the topic for the Memorial Lecture was “Doubling farmers’ income in India”. The lecture began with messages from the management, staff and alumni students in remembrance of Dr. Sapna. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Vijay Vir Singh, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Rajasthan. The above-mentioned topic was chosen as agriculture was the main research interest of Dr. Sapna and she had published and presented various papers in this field.
Session 2020-2021
The Economics Society of St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur organized the second Dr. Sapna Newar Memorial Lecture on “Genesis and implications of Recent Farm Acts”. The lecture was delivered by Prof. R.S. Deshpande, Former Director, Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Bangalore. Prof. Deshpande decoded the three bills- Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance, Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 passed by Indian Parliament in detail and highlighted the key concerns associated with all three bills on Indian Economy
Expert Lecture
Expert lectures enable the students to gain better understanding about the present day problems and their solutions from the experienced speaker.
In the Session 2019-2020, the following expert lectures were organized by the department:
1. ‘Life and Career in Civil Services’ by Mr. Ajit Singh, former I.A.S and Additional Chief Secretary on 19th December, 2019.
2. ‘Life and Career in Civil Services” by Mr. Lokesh Kumar, ADM and Additional Collector in Guna, Madhya Pradesh. on 17th February 2020.
In the Session 2020-2021, the following expert lectures were organized by the department:
1. ‘Beware but don’t be scared: Covid-19: Precautions we can take’ by Dr. Ashu Agarwal, Assistant Professor, SMS Medical College and Hospital, and Dr. Sheetu Singh, Associate Professor, SMS Medical College and Hospital on 27th August 2020.
2. ‘India’s middle class- how many are they, who are they?’ by Prof. Sandhya Krishnan (Ph.D. - University of Amsterdam & Assistant Prof. MDAE) on 16th October 2020
3. ‘Cost of Covid Treatment in India: Who Bears the Burden?’ by Dr. Sakthivel Selvaraj, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), New Delhi and Prof. Indrani Gupta, Institute of Economic Growth, New Delhi on 3 rd November 2020.
4. ‘Unemployment in the times of Covid-19: Challenges and Solutions’ by Dr. Ashish Kulkarni, Assistant Professor, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics on 6th January 2020.
Research Workshop
A two-day Research Methodology Workshop was organized by the Department of Economics on 8th and 9th February 2021. The workshop intended to impart knowledge amongst the students regarding how to write research papers/reports/dissertations, how to use tools for analysis, research ethics, and targeting appropriate journals for publication. The workshop consisted of four technical sessions taken by two resource persons- Dr. Preeti Bhatt, Associate professor, MNIT, Jaipur, and Dr. Bhawana Arya, Associate Professor, Manipal University Jaipur.
Picnic
Department Picnic is a one-day fun event for the students and faculty members to relax and enjoy sports activities.
Session 2019-2020
The Department of Economics organized a one-day picnic at Achrol Niwas, Treehouse Resort, Amer, Jaipur on 23rd August 2019. A total of 96 students attended the picnic. It went from breaking over to the food delicacies that were being served, stepping into the pool with some cheerful music, to the audacity of challenging the power, will, and strength of the adventure sport of trekking. The day became more spirited with sports like cricket, football, billiards, table tennis, and badminton and at the end, there was the magic show that was filled with tricks and mysteries.

Farewell
Session 2019-2020
The first and second-year students of the Department of Economics bid farewell to the outgoing batch of 2020 on 11th February by organizing a farewell party. The party was organized at “The Social Vibes” rooftop restaurant where seniors received a warm welcome from the juniors. The party theme was the Red Carpet. The program began with the distribution of unofficial tags to the seniors which was then followed by the Mr. and Ms. Farewell contest. The title of Mr. Farewell was awarded to Raghuraj Singh Shekhawat and Ms. Farewell was a tie between Daksha Sharma and Vartika Bothra. The next award of the evening was of Mr. and Ms. Best Dressed which was awarded to Dhiren Balhara and Ayushi respectively. This was followed by confessions for many seniors from their college life which were read aloud.
Alumni Interaction Session and Alumni Meet
Alumni interactive sessions and alumni meet are for the students to connect with the alumni and learn from the experiences and it creates a bond between the present and past students of the college.
Session 2019-2020
The department organized an interaction with the alumni for the students on 16th August 2019. Mr. Daksh Bhagat from the 2011-14 batch interacted with the students. He began by sharing his career path, highlighting that he is currently working in SALESFORCE, Bangalore after completing his graduation in Economics for St Xavier’s College, Jaipur, and pursuing Master in business administration(MBA) from IIM, Shillong. He advised the students to be dedicated to studies by eliminating all modern-day distractions, specifically social media. The entire session was highly interactive as students were extremely delighted to hear how his grit and determination helped him to achieve heights.
The Department of Economics had also taken the initiative to start its first Alumni chapter meeting followed by Dr. Sapna Newar Memorial lecture on 14 December 2019 in the College Auditorium. Alumni showed enthusiastic participation from all seven batches (2013 to 2019).
Alumni Interaction in Session 2020-21:
1. On 30 September 2020, the Department of Economics hosted an online Alumni session for the department's students. The session began with the welcome of Ms. Isha Koolwal and Mr. Shubham Saxena of batch 205-18 by Ms. Sunita Choudhary. Shubham Saxena after his bachelor’s from St. Xavier’s College Jaipur went to Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune for M.Sc. in International Business Economics. Currently, he is working as an Analytics Advisory (Data Science) at Think Analytics India Pvt. Ltd. Mumbai. Isha Koolwal went to K.J. Somaiya, Mumbai for her MBA in Financial Services. Currently, she is working with J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. Isha and Shubham spoke about the importance of students' involvement in the activities organized by the department.
2. on 31st October 2020, the second alumni meet was organized where Anshul Bhatt and Ishita Agarwal were invited. Anshul Bhatt graduated from Xavier’s in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in Economics and went ahead to Azim Premji University to complete her Masters in development. Currently, She is working as a Program Associate at Action Aid Association. Ishita Agarwal graduated from Xavier's in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in Economics and went ahead to Xavier Institute of Communication (XIC), Mumbai to pursue a Masters degree in Advertising and Marketing Communications. Currently, she is working as a Strategy Planner in an advertising agency based in Mumbai. Anshul spoke about how she was always inclined towards humanitarian services and always wanted to work in a field, which helped her work for the society.
3. With the motive of making the students understand the concept of data science in more detail, the Economics Society of Department of Economics conducted an interactive session on the topic "Introduction to data science: A roadmap to future prediction" on 28th November 2020. Mr. Shubham Saxena an alumni student of St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur who is currently working as an Analytics Advisory (Data Sciences) at Think analytics Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai was invited as the resource person.
4. On the 14th of December 2021, the department of Economics and Psychology, St. Xavier's College Jaipur hosted its second alumni Meet. Ms. Irina Chowdhary, Vice President of the Ecosoc Alumns, thanked everyone for helping to shape the society at the end of the session.
Donation Drive
Ek Abhilasha: An Effort Towards Making Dreams Come True
To honor the memory of Dr. Sapna Newar, the Economics Society successfully organized a Donation Drive in which Groceries, Clothes, Toiletries, and Stationery items were collected to help and support needy people of an old age home (Mother Teresa Home, C-scheme, Jaipur) and little children of SOS children’s Village, Jhotwara, Jaipur on 21-22 November 2020
